Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior representative stated the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
